Blessingway: celebrating the mother-to-be

Female 360° cycle, motherhood, fertility, menopause, Group Pathways

Dear mothers who are approaching the time of childbirth, did you know that there is a ritual completely dedicated to you?

A ritual that allows you to stop and make space for what is happening within you. It is called Blessingway literally “Blessing Way.”

Originating as a Navajo rite to celebrate the important moments of life’s passage, the Blessingway is now a full-fledged celebration for the mother-to-be usually organized by the doula (a figure of emotional and practical support to the pregnant woman) and/or the mother’s friends. During Blessingway every mother can fully savor the sacredness of her belly overflowing with life.

Each blessingway is different from the other and is organized according to the character of the mother-to-be; women close to her, those with whom she feels she has an important bond, are involved, and it all revolves around the emotional and bodily care of the woman (all activities are organized by those who know the mother-to-be well and will therefore choose those most meaningful to her)

One practice shared by many Blessingways, for example, is for friends (each carrying a bead) to create a necklace to give to the mother-to-be to wear during childbirth, symbolizing the energy shared with other women.

A precious occasion to celebrate every woman about to give birth to a new life by making her feel important and supported in her sacred role.
