Every criticism is a crack in the mirror: how to turn judgment into awareness
We have often talked about the mirror, both as a physical object in front of which we observe ourselves and as a relational mirror: that other which reflects parts of us.
Today I propose a third key to you:
the mirror of judgment.
Every time you judge — yourself or someone else — you leave a crack in the mirror.
A crack that distorts, but can also reveal.
This is not an invitation not to judge.
It is an invitation to become aware of what is going on inside you when you judge.
In the heart of Theasomatics
With the Theasomatic Method – Divine in Body, True in Soul, I accompany women to dissolve the conflict with image, body, and judgment (especially inner), to regain well-being, presence and coherence with their soul.
Every criticism is a crack: what does it really mean?
Every judgment you make (about yourself or others) is a crack in the mirror of the soul.
✦ The crack distorts
You see only what confirms your judgment.
You exclude the rest.
It is a partial, warped perception.
✦ The crack reveals
But it is also a gateway: that is where light can enter.
As Leonard Cohen writes:
“There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”
Judgment can become a portal to what inside you needs to be looked at.
What happens in your system when you judge?
At the mental level
Judgment separates.
“I am right, the other is wrong.”
👉 The mind stiffens, closes, defends itself.
👉 You lose flexibility and complex vision.
On an emotional level
Judgment covers a deeper emotion.
Fear. Envy. Inadequacy.
👉 But that feeling does not disappear: it compresses.
👉 It closes your heart.
At the body level
The body responds: it stiffens, it holds back.
👉 Contracted muscles.
👉 Shorter breath.
👉 Tighter posture.
At the energy level
Every criticism lowers the vibration, disperses energy.
👉 You move away from the center.
👉 You get into inner micro-conflicts.
On a spiritual level
Judgment breaks the unity.
“The other person has nothing to do with me.”
👉 But on the spiritual level, everything that touches you, affects you.
👉 To judge is to forget the interconnectedness.
How to turn judgment into a revealing mirror?
It’s not about “never judging.”
It’s about becoming aware.
Ask yourself:
- What really bothers me about that person?
- What resonates with my story, with a wound of mine?
- Is it a trait of his-or is it something that I also, deep down, carry inside?
Judgment stops being a barrier.
It becomes an inner mirror.
The crack as revelation
Using crack means:
- 👉 Do not avoid judgment, but observe it.
- 👉 Don’t identify with anger, but listen to it.
- 👉 Don’t cover the crack… but get into it.
Because right there, where control breaks down,
light can enter.
